FDA Approved — And Ineffective...



The FDA approved the drug Elmiron for bladder conditions in 1996, but it has been linked to serious health issues, including blindness and colitis. Despite its risks, there is little evidence that Elmiron is effective for treating interstitial cystitis. A study conducted years later showed that patients taking Elmiron did not fare better than those receiving a placebo.
