A senior Google executive has announced that the search giant will start delivering the wrong search results to jihadi sympathizers as a counter-terrorism measure. The Daily Mail reports: As part of a pilot scheme, the search engine will show anti-radicalisation links when would-be jihadists type in words related to extremism. The announcement was made by Dr Anthony House, a senior Google executive, while giving evidence to MPs in the UK parliament. ‘We are working on counter-narratives around the world. This year one of the things we’re looking at is we are running two pilot programmes,’ said Dr House. ‘One is to make sure these types of views are more discoverable. ‘The other is to make sure when people put potentially damaging search terms into our search engine they also find these counter narratives.’ Google has yet to respond to DailyMail.com on details of the pilot scheme, and whether it will be rolled out globally. Dr House says the counter-narrative messages will appear in the sponsored links which are returned at the top of a Google search, rather than in the search results. ‘We offer Google AdWords Grants to NGOs so that meaningful counter-speech ads can be surfaced in response to search [...]

Fact Check: Negative Reviews of “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi”
Sharyl Attkisson

“13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi” is the based-on-a-true-story film about the Sept. 11, 2012 Islamic extremist terrorist attacks on the U.S. compounds in Benghazi, Libya. It’s not a comprehensive tale: it sticks primarily to the personal stories as told by three CIA operators who heroically helped fight off the attackers as dozens of […]

A thought-provoking experiment: What happens when children don't have the internet for a whole day? -- Science of the Spirit -- Sott.net: "At first glance, the idea seems rather harmless. That's why the psychologist who organised it mistakenly believed that the experiment would be absolutely safe. Nobody expected such shocking results. Only three of the 68 participants reached the end of the experiment — one girl and two boys. Three of the participants had suicidal thoughts. Five of them experienced intense panic attacks. Twenty-seven experienced symptoms such as nausea, sweating, dizziness, hot flushes and abdominal pain. Almost everyone who took part experienced feelings of fear and anxiety.

Due Process is Dead: A Staggering 95% of All Inmates in America Have Never Received a Trial

(Claire Bernish) In the Land of the Free, one-quarter of the entire planet’s prison population, some 2.2 million people, currently languish behind bars; yet, an astonishing number of them — around 2 million — have never been to trial. Indeed, these figures categorically debunk the notion the criminal justice system in the United States maintains any semblance of its formation’s original intent: to ensure the guilty suffer punishment befitting their crimes, while the innocent avoid false conviction. As the fundamental basis for the justice system in the United States, the Sixth Amendment states: In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defense. Justice, as an untold — though no doubt, appalling — number can attest, has been utterly abandoned for the interests of the careless expedience, apathetic convenience, […]
