Since 2017, a new type of genetically engineered corn that uses gene-silencing RNA to kill pests has been grown widely in the U.S. This RNA technology is different from older GMOs because it affects genes without making proteins and may trigger immune responses. Despite its large use in foods, this gene-silencing crop was approved with little public notice and no labeling.
