The UN Is Warning That We Are Heading Into The Worst Global Food Crisis Since World War 2

ORIGINAL LINK

The executive director of the UN’s World Food Program is saying that we are now facing “a catastrophe on top of a catastrophe”.  Unfortunately, he is not exaggerating.  The global price of food was skyrocketing even before the war on the other side of the globe erupted, and now many of the countries that are extremely dependent on agricultural exports from Ukraine and Russia are going to have to turn elsewhere for answers.  Meanwhile, severe drought is threatening production in the other major “breadbasket” of the world.  We are being warned that the winter wheat harvest in the U.S. could be “disastrous” this year, and that is very unwelcome news.  Because if some sort of a miracle does not happen, we will soon see hunger and famine on a scale that once would have been unimaginable to many people.

We really are facing a “perfect storm” as far as global food production is concerned.  The following comes from a recent New York Times article

Ukrainian farms are about to miss critical planting and harvesting seasons. European fertilizer plants are significantly cutting production because of high energy prices. Farmers from Brazil to Texas are cutting back on fertilizer, threatening the size of the next harvests.

China, facing its worst wheat crop in decades after severe flooding, is planning to buy much more of the world’s dwindling supply. And India, which ordinarily exports a small amount of wheat, has already seen foreign demand more than triple compared with last year.

The new global energy crisis just keeps pushing fertilizer prices higher and higher.

This is something that I have been warning about for months, and now the mainstream media is finally acknowledging that we have a truly historic challenge on our hands.

In fact, they are not openly admitting that fertilizer prices have “more than doubled or tripled in price over the past year”

In another ominous signal to fertilizer customers, earlier this month European fertilizer producers said they were slowing or halting production because of soaring energy prices. Many fertilizers are made with natural gas.

The world’s major fertilizers have now more than doubled or tripled in price over the past year.

Actually, in some cases fertilizer prices have actually quadrupled.

How are the poorer parts of the world supposed to deal with that?

It is easy to tell them to use less fertilizer, but using less fertilizer will mean less food is grown.

Sadly, absurd fertilizer prices will result in dramatically reduced agricultural production all over the globe this year, and the executive director of the UN’s World Food Program is publicly warning that we are heading into the worst global food crisis “since World War II”

The looming disaster is laying bare the consequences of a major war in the modern era of globalization. Prices for food, fertilizer, oil, gas and even metals like aluminum, nickel and palladium are all rising fast — and experts expect worse as the effects cascade.

“Ukraine has only compounded a catastrophe on top of a catastrophe,” said David M. Beasley, the executive director of the World Food Program, the United Nations agency that feeds 125 million people a day. “There is no precedent even close to this since World War II.”

There will be famine in many parts of the globe in 2022.

Starting on page 44 of my latest book, I specifically warned that we were heading into a time of global famine.

Now even the United Nations is admitting that it is upon us, and things are only going to get worse in the months ahead.

But many Americans simply will not care about this crisis until it affects them personally.

Of course the truth is that many Americans are now starting “to feel the financial squeeze” of rapidly raising food prices.  The following comes from the Washington Post

As war continues to ravage Ukraine, Americans, particularly those who live paycheck to paycheck, are beginning to feel the financial squeeze on their food prices from the conflict half a world away.

It began with a rapid rise in gas prices. Now, with Russian oil banned in the United States and energy scarcity heightened globally, experts say shoppers can expect their grocery bills to rise in coming months – especially if Ukraine misses its wheat planting season.

The good news is that nobody is facing starvation in the United States at this point.

But lines at our local food banks are starting to get quite long once again…

Food bank officials are reporting growing lines at their distribution centers nationwide. Rates of reported hunger have been increasing since early August, when nearly 8 percent of respondents said they “sometimes” or “often” did not have enough to eat, according to data from the Census Household Pulse Survey.

In early February, 10 percent of those polled said their household sometimes doesn’t have enough to eat. That uptick is more significant for households with children, rising to 13 percent, although off from pandemic peaks.

In the months ahead, do you think that global energy prices will go up or down?

To me, the answer to that question is quite obvious.

If global energy prices continue to rise, that means that fertilizer prices will continue to rise.

And the higher fertilizer prices shoot up, the worse this new global hunger crisis will become.

Ever since the start of the COVID pandemic, the number of people around the world that do not have enough food to eat has been steadily rising.

Now the war in Ukraine has taken things to an entirely new level, and experts such as David Beasley are openly admitting that we simply are not going to be able to feed everyone.

So what happens if another “black swan event” takes place?

For example, what will happen if China invades Taiwan?

Or what will happen if another global pandemic suddenly erupts?

We are so vulnerable right now, and it isn’t going to take much to push our world into a complete and utter food production nightmare.

Why do the "vaccinated" want a WAR with Russia, while the "unvaccinated" don't?

ORIGINAL LINK

They’ve been trying from the start of this long global nightmare to equate compliance with benevolence. Throughout 2020, they told us, inescapably, that putting on a mask (or two, or three) made you a Good Person (“Wearing is caring”); and then, throughout 2021, they told us, inescapably, that “vaccination” was (to quote the horrible Bergoglio) “an act of love,” so that the kindliest and most considerate of us were those who’d had as many jabs as possible.

Conversely, they portrayed the “anti-maskers” as a danger to us all, not just because they’d surely kill us (or at least “kill Grandma”) with their toxic exhalations, but, on top of that, because of their combustible “far-right” hostility to anyone—bus drivers, security guards—who dared to tell them what to do. The propaganda fostering that canard then took to casting “anti-vaxxers” as hideously selfish animals, utterly indifferent to the huge (imaginary) risk they pose to those who did get jabbed—a claim as obviously false as it was (and is) scientifically absurd.

I call it “obviously false” because, outside the fever-dream “reported” daily by the media, it’s always been the other way around. All along, it’s been the maskers who have always readily abused the “anti-maskers,” and then it was the “vaccinated” who chastised (or worse) those choosing, for whatever reason, not to get injected. And, of course, it was the latter, not the former, who, while getting pelted with such sanctimonious denunciation, have also been excluded, isolated, silenced, censored, fired, delicensed, fined and even jailed, or involuntarily committed, either for refusing to get jabbed, or for merely questioning the wisdom, or the consequences, of the “vaccination” program.

And then we’ve also heard, and some of us have seen, a certain darkening of personality among the “vaccinated,” or some of them—a marked new nastiness, intolerance, explosiveness, as if those “vaccines” were laced with choler, or its nanotechnological equivalent. I for one have been attacked insanely, out of nowhere, by the recently injected; and others have reported the same thing.

That history of nastiness against the non-compliant is the context in which we should now check out, and share, these poll results from Canada:

Zelensky Uses Emergency Powers to Suspend Opposition Parties

Zalensky-Bans-Opposition-Parties.jpg

Ukraine plans to ban 11 opposition parties accused of having pro-Russian views, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced in a video statement Saturday. “Given the full-scale war waged by the Russian Federation and the ties of some political structures with this state, any activity of a number of political parties during the martial law is suspended,” Zelensky said during his address. He added that the decision was made by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine decided to ban the activity of Opposition Party —For Life, Shariy Party, Nashi, Opposition Bloc, Left Opposition, Union of Left Forces, State, Progressive Socialist Party of Ukraine, Socialist Party of Ukraine, Socialists Party and Volodymyr Saldo Bloc, Zelensky said.

The Ukrainian leader instructed his justice minister to immediately take comprehensive measures to ban the activities of these political parties in the prescribed manner,” according to the Washington Post. “Any activity of politicians aimed at splitting or collaborating will not succeed,” Zelensky added. “But it will get a tough response.”

Zelensky also took action against media outlets accused of having Russian ties or pro-Kremlin sentiment. The broadcasters had their licenses revoked and will be off the air for at least the next five years. The affected stations were ZIK, NewsOne, and 112 Ukraine, which were only available via streaming through YouTube.

“These media have become one of the tools of war against Ukraine, so they are blocked in order to protect national security,” Zelensky spokeswoman Iulia Mendel said in a statement. Mendel also claimed the outlets were directly funded by the Kremlin. Shortly after Zelensky’s announcement, the three affected outlets issued a joint statement describing the action as a “reckoning with inconvenient media.”

Zelensky recently lobbied for the establishment of a NATO-led “no-fly-zone” in a speech before U.S. lawmakers last week. Such an action would undoubtedly lead to a war between Russia and NATO, as enforcement would require NATO forces to shoot down Russian jets.

On Saturday, Zelensky said that a “third world war” was increasingly likely if upcoming talks with Russia failed.” “Unfortunately, our dignity is not going to preserve the lives, so I think that we have to do any format, any chance, so in order to have the possibility of talking to Putin,” Zelensky told CNN in a statement. “But if these attempts fail, that would mean a third world war.”

“Media Isn’t Warning You” That US Careening Towards Food Crisis

ORIGINAL LINK

Via ZeroHedge

Two weeks after the Russia-Ukraine crisis began, the world is quickly moving toward a food crisis that could affect millions of people. A spillover of the crisis could soon spark agricultural mayhem in the US.

The curtailment of agricultural exports from Russia and Ukraine will have dramatic knock-on effects on global food supplies. Both countries are known as the ‘breadbasket of the world’ and are responsible for a quarter of the international wheat trade, about a fifth of corn, and 12% of all calories traded globally. Another major problem is access to fertilizers, as Russia has banned exports of the nutrients.

It’s not whether or not there will be a food crisis. It’s how big that crisis will be.

We’ve already noted a handful of emerging market countries to monitor as the Russian invasion is choking off grain exports to them and causing prices to rise, which may result in social unrest. Even in the Western world, agricultural markets have not been immune, and higher prices have stung consumers.

A tweet from Douglas Karr, the founder of the businesses blog Martech Zone, made the point the “media isn’t even warning you” a food crisis in America is emerging.

Karr said he spoke with numerous folks in the food industry who said farmers in the South and Midwest are having trouble procuring fertilizer to grow crops ahead of planting season. He said farmers in the “Midwest are switching,” likely referring to crops that need fewer nutrients because they “can’t get nitrogen nor fertilizer.”

Even before Russia invaded Ukraine, the global food system was strained. Snarled supply chains and adverse weather conditions in top growing regions of the world resulted in low crop yields and rising prices. The supply shock of Ukraine will amplify the crisis as the UN warned global food prices could jump 8%-20% from here (prices are already at record highs).

Responding to Karr’s viral tweet, some people said they were buying a freezer to panic hoard food supplies as the worst food crisis has yet to come.

“Likely getting a 2nd chest freezer soon and stuffing it with meats/frozen vegetables/etc. Also, it looks like “preppers” who were dismissed or made fun of last decade are about to be set on being right,” one person said

Another person said, “Read this and then understand why in the last 6 months several publications have been grooming us to accept eating bugs. All of this was planned. Buy a 2nd freezer, and stock it. Soon.”

The Great Depression II

ORIGINAL LINK
The Great Depression II

Authored by Jeff Thomas via InternationalMan.com,

Whenever a movie has been a huge hit, the film industry tries to follow it up by doing a sequel. The sequel is almost invariably far more costly, as there’s the anticipation by those who create it that it will be an even bigger blockbuster than the original.

The Great Depression of the 1930’s is seen by most people to be the be-all and end-all of economic catastrophes and there’s good reason for that.

Although the economic cycle has always existed, the period leading up to October 1929 was unusual, as those in the financial sector had become unusually creative.

Brokers encouraged people to buy into the stock market as heavily as they could afford to. When that business began to level off, they encouraged people to buy on margin. The idea was that the buyer would only put up a fraction of the money for the purchase and the broker would “guarantee” full payment to the seller. As a condition to the agreement, the buyer would have to relinquish to the broker the right to sell his stock at any point that he wished, should he feel the need to do so to get himself off the hook in the event of a significant economic change.

Both the buyer and the broker were buying stocks with money that neither one had. But the broker entered into the gamble so that he could charge commissions, which he would be paid immediately. The buyer entered into the gamble, as he had been promised by the broker that stocks were “going to the moon” and that he’d become rich.

Banks got into the game, as well. At one time, banks took money on deposit, then lent that money out at interest. They would always retain a percentage of the deposited money within the bank to assure that they could meet whatever the normal demand for withdrawals might be. But, eventually, bankers figured out that, if they were prepared to gamble, they could lend out far more money – many times the amount that they had received on deposit. As long as very few loans turned bad, they would eventually get the money back, with interest.

And so, in the 1920’s, they loaned money to people so that they could buy into the stock market more heavily. From that point forward, an investor who was tapped out and couldn’t afford to buy more stock, then bought on margin. When he was no longer able to even afford to buy on margin, he borrowed money from the bank to buy on margin.

That meant that only a tiny percentage of the “money” that passed hands actually existed. The great majority of investment funds only existed on paper.

Of course, the very existence of this absurd anomaly depended upon a market that was thriving and moving steadily upward. If for any reason, there were a sudden loss of confidence in the banks, large numbers of depositors would demand to withdraw their deposits and there would be bank failures, as the banks had been playing with money that did not exist.

Likewise, if that loss of confidence were to take place with regard to the stock market, large numbers of stockholders would try to sell at the same time and the market would collapse, as the brokers had been playing with money that did not exist.

In the 1920’s, fortunes were being made by those who ran banks and brokerage houses – at a rate that greatly exceeded anything that had ever existed.

Unfortunately, they’d created the greatest financial bubble in history and, when it popped, as all bubbles do, it popped in a very big way.

Thousands of banks were wiped out. Thousands of brokerage houses were wiped out. And millions of investors were wiped out.

Not surprising that laws were then passed to assure that such a disaster could never occur again. Of particular importance was the Glass Steagall Act.

Then, in 1999, Glass Steagall was repealed. This was done under the advice of Fed chairman Alan Greenspan, and was accepted readily by then-president Bill Clinton, as he was assured that the repeal would mean a dramatic increase in investment, which would assure a shining legacy for him as he left office.

My own first reaction to the repeal was that, over the ensuing years, we’d see irrational investment in the real estate market, made possible through bank loans. This would lead to a crash in real estate, followed by a crash in the stock market. I believed that this debacle would be papered over by governments, eventually leading to a further crash, and that the latter crash would be of epic proportions.

But, why should this be? Why should the second crash be so much greater?

Well, the magnitude of a crash tends to be equal to the magnitude of the economic abnormality that preceded it. The crash of 1929 was greater than previous crashes, because bankers and brokers had found new ways to inflate the bubble beyond anything that had existed before.

Likewise, they’ve become even more creative this time around and have inflated the bubble far beyond what existed in 1929. The level of debt far exceeds anything the world has ever seen.

The 2008 crash was, in effect, a mini-crash. No correction ever took place. Instead, it was papered over by massive increased debt, assuring that, when the inevitable big crash did occur, the severity would be far beyond any other crash in history.

The sequel to the 1929 crash will be much like movie sequels. With movies, the producers invest more money into the sequel than they spent on the original movie, in the belief that, if they just throw enough money at it, it will somehow be better and make them even more money than the original.

Likewise in economic events, the assumption is that, if a great deal of money had been made in the buildup to the last major collapse, surely, by creating even more debt this time around, the profit to be made will be far greater than before.

And this has proven to be true. Financial institutions have entered into an era of profit that has historically been without equal. The original was a monster and the sequel will prove to be an even bigger monster.

Of course, there’s a difference between movies and economic events. With movies, the producers cash in when the moviegoers pay their admissions fee. With economic crises, the producers make their fortunes in the lead-up to the crash. The crash itself simply passes the bill for the disaster to the moviegoers.

The question that’s always asked prior to any crash is, “When will it happen?” Unfortunately, although crises can be analyzed and predicted beforehand, the date is more uncertain. The decisive factor is the loss of confidence by the general public. When they collectively get weak knees about the economic future – when they withdraw their deposits from banks and sell their shares in the market, the bubble will suddenly pop.

And so, the actual screening of this particular epic could be a year from now, or it could be next week. So, it might be premature to buy your box of popcorn now, but, when crashes come, they come suddenly and without warning.

Since it’s not possible to predict an exact date, those who don’t wish to be casualties of the collapse may wish to prepare for it – to get free of debt, to liquidate assets that will be devalued in a crisis, to turn the proceeds into real money (precious metals) and to relocate to a place that’s likely to be less impacted by the monetary and social crisis that will ensue.

Twitter Censors ‘The Babylon Bee’ for Calling Rachel Levine a Man

ORIGINAL LINK

Twitter has censored The Babylon Bee over a tweet that referred to the Biden Administration’s transgender HHS Secretary, Rachel Levine, as a man. Twitter is claiming that the post violates their policy against hate speech. Twitter has locked the Babylon Bee’s account, demanding they remove the post, but Bee CEO Seth Dillon says he won’t delete the truth.

Levine, who is a biological male and went by the name of Richard before proclaiming womanhood and transitioning in 2011, was recently named “Woman Of The Year” by the far-left USA Today newspaper. In a tweet from The Babylon Bee, the satirical publication spoofed The USA Today’s announcement, saying that “The Babylon Bee’s Man Of The Year is Rachel Levine.”

That tweet apparently violated Twitter’s policies against “hateful conduct,” prompting a 12-hour lock of The Babylon Bee’s account. By locking the account, Twitter is able to directly censor the satire site by preventing them from posting new tweets and accessing other basic functions.

“I just received this notice that we’ve been locked out of our account for ‘hateful conduct,'” Dillon posted to Twitter, attaching a screenshot of communication from the big tech giant explaining that the account had “been locked for violating the Twitter Rules.”

— Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) March 20, 2022

In a subsequent Tweet, Dillon explained that, according to Twitter, the 12-hour lock period won’t begin to expire until the tweet in question has been deleted, something Dillon says isn’t going to happen.

“We’re told our account will be restored in 12 hours, but the countdown won’t begin until we delete the tweet that violates the Twitter Rules,” Dillon posted, attaching a copy of Twitter’s communication explaining that The Babylon Bee’s account has been censored.

“We’re not deleting anything. Truth is not hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it,” Dillon responded to his Tweet, refusing to grovel to Twitter’s censorship demands.

We're not deleting anything. Truth is not hate speech. If the cost of telling the truth is the loss of our Twitter account, then so be it.

— Seth Dillon (@SethDillon) March 20, 2022

The Babylon Bee has been a frequent target of big tech censors, with most crediting this to its reputation as a Christian, conservative-oriented satirical news site which also reports truth and helps discredit the liberal elite. Like Twitter’s recent censorship, Facebook has come down particularly hard on The Bee, censoring the website on numerous occasions and claiming that their jokes violate big tech speech policies.
